2-23-housetourlogo.jpgMarisa has always loved mid-century kitsch and when she bought her first condo in Los Angeles last year, she couldn't wait to introduce her style in her new home. With mid-century influences from her childhood home mixed with her love of colorful vintage finds, Marisa designed her home around 3 key pieces of furniture that she had always wanted - the Eames surfboard coffee table, Bertoia stools and the Saarinen table. Along with pops of colors like yellow, blue, orange and red that compliment the design, Marisa's home is cool style. Check out Marisa’s space after the jump...

080808_marisa-01.jpgAT House Tour Survey:

My/Our style:I grew up in a loft style modern home. While my mother's influence is obvious, I have always had an affinity for vintage kitsch and mid century modern.

Inspiration:When I lived with my sister, whose style was modeled after the beach home in "Something's Gotta Give", I had to compromise my style. When I bought my own one bedroom condo, I knew the space would work with my aesthetic based off the limestone covered fireplace. Because of the small space I really wanted a light airy feel to make my home feel open and inviting rather than a small cave. From there, I filled the space with 3 of my major furniture pieces that are classics and had always been a dream of mine to own - the Eames surfboard coffee table, Bertoia stools and the Saarinen table. These are the foundation to the space. Everything from there have been elements to give warmth and color.

Favorite Element: My home is like my child – I don't favor one thing more than the other.

Biggest Challenge: With less than 800 SF, an open floor plan, and only one closet attached to the bedroom - my biggest challenge has been storage space. I had to be creative in finding ways to keep my accents and home accessories to a minimum. I had Closet World create a custom build-out in my closet to accommodate my clothes, art supplies, household supplies and bedding. My IKEA Stolmen solution (while a mess to put together) is one of my favorite pieces for storing so many of my other things, like cds, electronics, home office supplies, books, magazines, blue glass collection and more.

What Friends Say About Your Home: It's so white! Where is all your stuff? There is very little clutter!

Biggest Embarrassment: Hanging my art work myself - it's slightly crooked.

Proudest DIY: Hanging my artwork myself.

Biggest Indulgence: My authentic marble top Saarinen dining table that I saved up for and bought myself. I grew up with the large oval marble topped Saarinen table as our family formal dining room table that, one day, I will have to get that away from my mother.

Best Advice, Given or Received You don't want to fill up the space to just fill it, but rather choose each piece with thought. Take the time to find all the right pieces. After a year of living in my home, I still feel like I still have so much I want to do with my space. Add an accent wall of wallpaper, do some fun wall paint in my bedroom, buy a fabulous wingback for my living room and build out a storage/wrap around bench on my patio.

It's a great little place and her pieces make the white walls look like a conscious choice rather than the default...

...but I'm baffled at the display of pillows on the sideboard like they were on display in a store.

Can anyone identify the white sideboard under the television? (Ditto the comments on the pillows... I suspect that this was done for the sake of the photo?)

Those smocked pillows on the dining chairs---definitely authentic 50s.
