Years lived in: 5
My/our Style: Classic with a dash of wit
The Inspiration for my home: The great design of a found object, living with dogs and children, the beach
Favorite element: color
Biggest Challenge in designing my home: This house is a box. it had no architectual detailing, the cielings are low and it's been added on to in a bowling alley fashion. I created a 'nantucket' bedroom by applying 1x6s to the dry wall and salvaged windows anddoors
What friends Say about my home: It's amazing what you can do with a little paint
Biggest Embarrassment in my home: The kitchen,or lack thereof
Proudest DIY: The headboard in the guest room
Biggest Indulgence with respect to my home: The ridiculous bathroom the previous owners put in, although a design misstep...I secretly enjoy it!
Best Advice given or received: Go for it.
Dream Source for stuff: Well appointed homes in the carribean--the mix of provenance and beach is what I aspire to. Aspire being the operative word!

Adorable. I'd like to see the outside.
Thanks, for the tour.
Lovely--especially the living room curtains. Did you paint the coral hooks in the bathroom? And with what kind of paint?
Anthropologie sold the coral hooks in the red color Megan used in her bathroom and also sold them in white (also available were cabinet door knobs which I bought).
This is worlds away from my aesthetic, but I love it.
I like a lot about this house, including the blue wall color in the dining room; do you by chance remember the specifics of the paint?
the blue (or green depending on who you are!) is an old kmart martha stewart color called 'taper green' . if you can get ahold of an old color card, you can get it matched. she has a sherwin wllms color, currently, that's close, it's a tad greener, but very close. it's called 'horsemint'. also, benjamin moore makes a color called 'leisure green' it's a softer version.
the coral hooks are, indeed, anthropologie.
thank you all for taking a peek!
Megan - congrats - this looks so great. Makes me miss Manhattan Beach. I love the 1x6's - it makes the rooms so cozy and looks like it was original. And I love the aqua walls with the pink furnishings. Very 'Ivy at The Shore'!
Go for a swim in the ocean for me!
Victoria
Very cute, very cozy. Nicely done.
Love the curtain fabric.
I LOVE THIS! All that folded up fabric, I'm so jealous! If only I had the money. Someday... Someday. Thanks for sharing.
I love that she left the bedroom walls unfinished, the exposed wood can be used for shelves; lovely furnishings throughout and the color choices are very nice.
Megan, you place is lovely and so restful. And I used to work for Droll Design in the late 90's. I painted many of those canister sets, maybe even yours!
Loving those high windows in the bedroom. Have to work those into my home in Morocco!
I love it. Very inventive. Will you decorate my house? I love the mixture of colors & textures - old and new/ modern and traditional.
I love it. You are so very inventive and creative.
Question: Would you please write about the deck paint? Did you apply it as-is or did you seal it? Will it work on wood and formica? Any tips?
Re your "new" bathroom:
I'm sorry it's not to your taste. Still, I can see how you could quite easily add a beachy quality to it with your genius for using accessories. (I wish I had that bathroom, though.)
Thanks a bunch. Please write about the deck paint.
terry. the deck paint was, literally, painted over finished floors. i had the floor guy do a dark stain, which looked wretched (williamsburg-ish) and so went out and purchased a few gallons of this paint. they rolled it on. easy. don't know if the product would stick to formica. seems like it would bubble. i didn't have it sealed.
the bathroom, i secretly enjoy. i enjoy the size. i just think it looks silly given the size in relation to the rest of the house. also, i don't like the travertine. but i have added beachy touches. it's just so NEW and lacking flavor.
