We've had a taste of Deana Bracken's home before, a vibrant ode to the Southern California's bright and cheery colours and an inspiring mix of vintage and modern that spans decades in design motifs. Her entry in last fall's Color Contest received an honorable mention. Now, we get to check back in with Deana, who is kind enough to share the rest of her home. Read more after the jump.
Inspiration: My grandmother's house and our gorgeous Los Angeles surroundings.
Our Style: James Mont meets Mica Ertegun - dramatic & always changing.
Favorite element: The details from the 20's (the mouldings, windows, etc.) I could never live anywhere built after 1980.
Biggest Challenge: Entertaining tons & working - in a small bungalow
What friends say: Can they move in when I/we leave?
Biggest Embarrassment: cat hair; we have 4, so it's a daily struggle to keep up
Proudest DIY: the trees in the hallway
Biggest Induglence: our signed Slim Aaron's Poolside Gossip. I stare at it everyday; it transcends me

I like your eclectic mix of styles. And the thing you did with the molding to highlight the artwork. And the calm, serene color scheme.

I liked the "old" look better. Am I the only one?

The old look with the bright green was too jarring in my opinion. This looks much more cohesive and sophisticated to me. But maybe it's personal bias. Who knows.

i love that you play with your apt, i love your mix of modern with antiques and i love that your apt seems to be a changeable forum to work out your design ideas. a couple of questions: were the handles on the white dresser in the bedroom there when you purchased it? if not, i'd love to know where you got them as i'm looking for something similar. how did you silver the mirrored frame in the nook? and is that a microwave on top of your refrigerator? i'm looking for a similar sized mic -- they're so tough to find. thanks for the tour!

I loved your home in the color contest, and I love it now. I missed the beautiful yellow painting at first, but was relieved to see it in your bedroom. I love that you change your home. I love to change my apartment around too.
I am in love with your porcelain pieces juxtaposed with the blue. I am also in love with the Paton chairs. It is marvelous the way you pull off using classic pieces with modern. The only thing I am not a fan of is the wallpaper/scone arrangement over your sofa. It does not look fresh enough for your style, but looks rather old fashioned. But that's only my opinion.
Elsewhere your style is so fresh, the art in the kitchen is amazing. The soldier in your china cabinet and the lady over your stove. (Great stove by the way, wish that was in my apartment!) I would encourage you to rethink the arrangement over your sofa. I can see you are extremely creative so this will be easy for you. I adore grandma's sofa, but you really need something that kind of contrasts the sofa, like you have done so expertly in your dining room.
I'm sure you'll be changing things around anyway. It is great fun, isn't it?
