Nice place, looks like a put a lot of work into it. I think it's really funny when home owners post odd pictures like the toilet paper holder or stack of bricks in the backyard. Am I missing something here?

BrendenM: Included the toilet roll holder since it's beautifully minimal and in line with all of Glen's other bathroom fixtures. I think you might be mistaking his brick stairway for a "stack of bricks" ;)

Great looking place! Love the kitchen area. Although when viewing a house tour I prefer to view the room not have weird close-ups of their belongings. I would prefer to see how these belongings are used in the room, not just a close-up.

Nice place! Elegant yet homey. I have a question though, where's the fridge? Also, do you ever feel like the living room is just too on top of the kitchen? We're about to move into a place with a similar layout, and I'm a bit concerned that I'll be looking at my dirty dishes a little too much.

Great Home! Nice pictures too. I like the detail of the brick steps. The bathroom really comes together and looks awesome. The backyard is amazingly fun with the colors and pieces used.

The kitchen light fixture has been with me for 20 years and is kind of beat up. It is an Arne Jacobson design.

The fridge is enclosed in the cabnetry on the far left. It is small, but works out for one or two people.

The kitchen and living and dining all mashed up is good sometimes and bad other times. At a dinner party it is great, everybody is together for the cooking. But the room gets hot and we eat in the company of the dirty dishes as we eat. Also the next day: dirty dishes in the living room. All in all it works pretty well. Loft-like. I also benefit from the courtyard, it is like an additional room in the warm months.

one of my all time favorites, love it!

it's all quite beautiful but the one thing i want to do is CUDDLE that green glass jar on your dining table for a minute (for some odd reason i can't explain). :-)

Beautiful house! Really love the bathroom and the wood doors throughout.

However, you are marring that lovely kitchen w/ all the crap piled on top of the cabinets.

I had been lusting after that sofa at Sunset Orange for months. I'm glad to see it went to such a tastefully done space. Jealous!

I really like the natural light, the flooring, the bathroom and the pool area. Oh, how I miss Cali sometimes! I agree with the poster who commented on the stuff on top of the cabinets....it looks too cluttered.

That bathroom floor made me mess myself.

Are we seeing the McMansioning of Apartment Therapy? This home is gorgeous, but I can't believe AT would actually call it small. How long will it be before Smallest Coolest breaks the 1,000 foot mark?

Yeah, I don't want to be "that person", but I have about a 900 sq ft apartment and I think it's frigging huge. I have space that I don't know what to do with. Let's have more of the 450sq ft apartment home tours, those are always the most creative.

Glen, do you have any more details on your bedroom door/closet doors and the bathroom door? The previous owners of our Eichler have bastardized the doors in our house and the ones you have have would fit perfectly...

I don't mind if you have a contest with huge places to live in, but can you at least make an option to filter. For instance you can label the contestants with houses under 450 as tiny and then the people who think this has become a little unfun owing to how is 900 small, would complain less.

I love this site, but with the world being more concerned about the environment and conserving and global warming I think this bigger thing is bad and I'm in Los Angeles.

This is just not small, even in LA for normal people. For one person this is not small.

Great kitchen but what's with all the clutter above the wall cabinets? Maybe I'm weird, but my eyes beamed right there. Seems like there is plenty of storage to stow away that stuff (at least for the pic).

Browne: please note this is a House Tour (the green sticker; Smallest Coolest will have a banner designating it so) and the home belongs to a landscape architect who works from home. The house is not small, but neither is it large by any standard of a normal sized home (finding 2 bedroom homes is near impossible nowadays). I'd attribute it seeming spacious because of Glen's minimal modern decor, the open floor plan and also the use of a wide angle lens.

This is a wonderful home that looks stylish and still very comfortable.

I'm curious about the bathroom floor. I've had my eyes on a similar product and am try to find a way to use it that will be practical (backsplash? shower basin?). Can you please tell me, is it easy to keep clean?

The countertop is a standard kind of laminate, Formica I think.

The cabinetry in the bathroom is custom.

The doors are VG fir. I'm not sure but Taylor Bros on Riverside Dr: http://www.taybros.com/ might be where they came from. The combination of the wood with aluminum surrounds is good.

The pebbles for the bathroom floor have not been hard for me to keep clean, but you can imagine that they would be bad news in a high-traffic situation. There is nothing better than putting bare feet down on them after a shower in the summer. I have seen similar pebble-shaped tiles used in a shower basin where you would have daily wetness and prefer something easier to scrub. These are real stones and are sealed, but seem a little too porous for a shower basin.

And I found the slide display strip at a really cool design gift shop on Green Street in Pasadena called Sfritzi or something like that.

The kitchen countertop is a laminate - ARPA 9214 Alu Fire, Erre finish. One 51" x 120" sheet cost $141.05, including crating and shipping. Purchased from CPS Garten 800-367-8505.

The cabinets were custom made by Joe Ball of Precision Wood in Sun Valley, CA. He can be found at precisionwood@hotmail.com

All of the exposed wood, including the doors, is vertical grain douglas fir. We had a little problem with the lack of lip/overhang on the bathroom sink - the door was touching the bottom of the countertop, which created capillary action to make the door always wet, so it delaminated the plywood. We replaced the door a little lower and it's fine.

I always make sure that the tile and grout, especially one with so much profile, has been well sealed. That makes for easier cleaning and better looking tile in the long run. Maintenance is a pain, but it really does pay off.
