Biggest Challenge in designing my home: The open floor plan required creative solutions to space planning.
What friends Say about my home: They admire our view and say that the place is fancy and modern, yet comfortable and relaxing
Biggest Embarrassment in my home: In the beginning, Edwin tried to hang a very heavy Pablo light on a wall that buckled. He is terrible at patching walls and continues to procrastinate on fixing it Another is our office area because it keeps getting rearranged and currently is serving as a dumping ground, hence the lack of photo
Proudest DIY: 8 hours of patient drilling through thick concrete ceilings and at one point hitting rebar to put up support brackets for the Falkner and Moooi pendant lights.
Biggest Indulgence with respect to my home: The loft itself we will be paying it for a loooong time

Dream Source for stuff: We would love to raid the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica.

Well done. I can see where you get your inspiration in boutique hotels. Your place looks very swank and relaxing. The FLOR Zooty tooth looks great in your bedroom. Where is the white storage/bookcase from (in the first picture above)?

A gorgeous home... too many lovely vistas to count. I love the pendant lamp over the dining table-- what amazing shadows it casts on the ceiling! Can you tell me who made it and where you got it? It would be perfect for the space over my dining table (assiming i can afford it...)

Absolutely gorgeous. I love what you have done and how it shows in these photos. I love the treatment in the long hall with the low credenzas and the 2 light cubes to augment the recess cans.
The place has a wonderful relaxing vibe about it and yet, very comfortable and liveable too.

Please tell me the paint behind the bed?
I remember seeing this on Flickr a while back. So glad you're getting some recognition! It looks amazing!

I'm sorry, but this looks to me like another place with all the design classics...the lamp, the bookshelf etc and no soul. Where is the human element?

Trend alert, trend alert: I'm seeing a lot of dark blue walls with yellow accents lately... Two posts today alone.

IQ - if you see this homeowner's other photos on flickr it is obvious that she is also a wonderful photographer. I have a feeling that her home was a bit staged for the photos. I am sure it has more "soul" in person.
I admit, there are elements that scream "we have money!" to those of us that recognize a piece and know it's cost but I do like how she made them part of her home - ie: it doesn't look like a DWR showroom.

It's amazing what a lot of money will buy. ;-)

This place is fab! Everyone knows money has nothing to do with good taste. How ever you slice it- This place rocks.

Interesting choices in that boutique hotels were obviously a source of inspiration. At the same time, nothing looks impersonal or overly-regimented. It's clean, yet cozy! Nice!

Laura, I agree, someone obviously has quite an eye for photography ;)
I'm sure Jeannie and Edwin will be flattered to have such positive comments from someone who had clearly mastered the art of adding the human element to their home ie; you! Next year you're going to win the No. 1 spot in the AT stakes - your place is gorgeous. Well done!

I'm dying to know what the paint color is used in the bedroom? I love it.

Thanks for all the feedback!
Here are your questions answered:
1) The white storage divider is three "Pi" shelves stacked on top of one another. Not sure if they're still available - we got them on sale at Crate&Barrel last year.
2) The pendant above the dining table is the smaller sized "Random" light by Moooi. Since it's an European design, we got it from a online retailer based in Europe - even with shipping it was still cheaper than buying it here in the US. (Had a budget to adhere to.) If you do a search on it, you should be able to find a list of stores.
3) The grey sofa/sectional is the "Klein" from Room&Board.
4) Glad to hear so many are fond of the bedroom color choice :) It's called "Cafe on the Riviera" by Ralph Lauren. Lowe's carries a very similar color - "Everglade Deck" by American Tradition (not American Standard, sorry).
By the way, just to clarify - this is not an actual penthouse unit, we just wanted it to feel like one... we're not that kind of ballers ;)

At least one of you MUST have gone to Art Center (i.e. I smell a trust fund).
It's beautiful, but feels a bit contrived and catalog-ish, at least for the photos.

This is very late but does anyone know where the white media console is from?

Oh, this was from awhile ago, but I am hoping you could show a closeup of the white granite countertop ... we are thinking of doing one but have not seen any images ... any drawbacks? i love the look of marble, but we are messy cooks and eaters. your place looks beautiful and calming.
