Here's one of our bloggers-in-training with her first house tour...an intimate tour of their very own abode. Filled with a mixture of modern and traditional elements, Rebecca and Joe's moderate sized apartment glows with character despite their renters status and limitations. Their choices in interior colours and the various complimenting patterns and textures artfully decorating their home result in a home that is stylishly lived-in without being cluttered (we love their organized small home office). Take a peek inside Rebecca's mini house tour and tell us what you think...

"For my first house tour, I figured I would start with my own little apartment - diving into the deep end, so to speak!
Since we are saving for our first home, we’ve decided to stay in our small apartment since the rent is great (all utilities are included) and we love the location! Although there are amenities that we are sacrificing (no dishwasher, no A/C, not loving the beige carpet, layout of space), we have been thoughtful about our space by creating a design flow and functionality that works for us! We are loving experimenting with different eco-friendly paint colors, which is a renter-friendly and inexpensive way to change the tone of a space."

AT Survey:
Inspiration: Experimenting with color
Favorite: Floor-ceiling-windows and dual entrances.
Biggest Challenge: Since our bathroom is in the bedroom, we needed a way to create privacy for ourselves and for our guests. We created a "hallway" by installing a simple hook/wire set to hang curtains. Since they are on hooks, we can take the panels downs when it’s just the two of us.
What Friends Say: They love the red wall! It’s definitely something we are “trying on” in our home. I never thought I would have a red wall but it’s been fun and we are enjoying it! (which we feel is most important)
Embarrassment: The heat! We have older slated crank windows that are not insulated. So in the heat of the summer, it’s pretty hot in there.
Proudest DIY: We decided to turn our eat-in-kitchen into an office space. We installed an elfa unit and are really enjoying how functional it is for us. Plus, we can re-use it in the future in any room as storage, etc.
Indulgence: High-thread sheets
Dream: Having a home with dedicated outdoor rooms and bamboo flooring throughout the space.
Best Advice Given or Received: Make your house your home, your refuge, your place to truly relax and enjoy!

This place looks great. I especially love the little pictures in a big frame. It's a wonderful way to display a lot of snapshots without making a cluttered-looking display. The red wall also looks very elegant. It's an amazingly good color choice.
The only thing is that the description says the bathroom is in the bedroom but I didn't see any shots of that. I'd like to see how that fits into the scheme. Perhaps I missed the picture?

What is the name and manufacturer of the blue paint you used in your bedroom?

Hi all - thanks for checking out my house tour and the nice comments! Here are a few answers for you...
Orchid64 - the bathroom is in the bedroomto the right of our bed. We also have a walk-in closet on that wall.
themonkrat - the sheets are by The Grand (they are SOFT) and the duvet is actually an inexpensive brand called Pure Green.
JMBnewspgirl - the paint brand for all of the walls is Yolo Color House and the bedroom color is Water 6. This paint is truly amazing - zero VOCs, no odor and gorgeous when it's applied. It's a bit more pricey then regular paint but it spreads well so it goes a long way. Absolutely worth it!
Cheers!
Rebecca

I agree with Orchid, the orderly collage in nice frames has now given me a template for my inspiration pages. I've been wanting to swap out whatever I do (some will be green themed, some blue, etc.) but I didn't want some high school ripped collage look. You achieved such a nice happy inspiration piece that's age appropriate!

Rebecca, I love your apt! You did SO much with only 650 sq. feet. The home office is fantastic, also love the bedding, and splashes of color. Agreed that the framed collage picture is a great idea. I love the seashell hints too! This is a great post! Love it!

I have the same duvet cover. I bought it at Linens-N-Things a couple years ago on sale for about $30. Unfortunately you get what you pay for, threads are pulling and the shams are rough from washing. But you can't buy anything expensive when you have a dog on the bed.

I love what you've done color wise and layout wise. Though, perhaps my favorite thing is the picture of you two together, but just your shadows.

Is your dining room table a black stained/painted jokkmokk from Ikea? If so, please tell me how you did that! Wonderful apartment! Thanks!

It really looks great. You guys did a great job. May steal some ideas from you! I'm trying to figure out my desk situation. I have room in my kitchen, but I have an island in there and I need the counter space more than an office area, I guess. I cook and bake more than I'm on the computer. But I like the shelving idea. Thanks!
