apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

(Mini) House Tour

From San Deigo, Ha sent a few shots of her newly decorated living room, writing that it is "an anomaly from the rest of the retro crowd. Trying to mix old and new. Updating the good antique pieces that I've had for years, but tying the room together with color." The space is one long rectangular room. The dining and seating area are on opposite ends of the same room.

Just delicious! Do you know what that plant is called?

Sorry, don't know the name of the plant. I've had it for 12 years. Bought it for $10 at a moving sale, and now it's over 11 feet. Our living room is 17 feet, so we still have room for it to grow.

Lovely! Would like to see more pics. Where abouts in SD are you located? I'm in University Heights.

Is your name "Ha"? That's my sister's name too. :)

BTW, does the West Elm store in SD still have those red fern pillows in stock? I want one and the website is out.

T,

Yeah, my name is Ha. I bought the pillows at West Elm last year. Last I checked, they no longer have them.

I'm in boring suburban bliss, Rancho Penasquitos. I'd like to post more pics, but every other room in the house is sort of half done, because my design philosophy is do it right or don't do it at all. Sometimes I spend a year looking for the right item (like the one over the dining room). We're currently redoing our family room, putting in a home theater -- poking holes in the ceiling for speakers, and building cabinetry, so it's a mess anyhow. We've done lots or research on electronics as well, since I'm an anal retentive geek at heart. Will share pics and resources as I complete each project.

Good luck on your quest for pillows.

I'm trying to get the folks here at AT to have a San Diego AT.

Very "Trading Spaces" meets "While You Were Out" with a touch of Christopher Lowell.

I would love a San Diego AT.

PQ! I used to live in RB. I now live in CV(I don't think anyone calls it that). Hahahaha

Ouch! there are certain universal design principles that are applied in those shows, like scale and color, but I don't really watch them, because I think the rooms they create are impractical, not too mention that the stuff looks like they may fall apart within a month or two. There are a couple of things that I will add eventually like a sleek black wood stool from inmod and I'd like to change the flooring to a dark wood or even black. But first, I need to recover from my purchase of the pendant light over the dining room.

As for a San Diego AT, we can feature Little Italy, Circa AD, Gaslamp, Cedros, Artwalk, etc. We also have some very well known Crafts Artists here.

The plant is Ficus lyrata, or a Fiddle leaf Ficus, if that's easier to remember. It's a lovely one too!
