Getting the Guestroom Together for the Holidays

113007_guestroom.jpg Photo by Joshua McHugh

The more the merrier! Like it or not the holidays often means having a houseguest or two. I don't have the luxury of a spare room but if I did, I'd be all over the domino instant guest room guide, making it lovely's brand new guest room (complete with guest!), and for those with or without spare rooms, unclutterer has a guide for preparing for your guest without creating clutter.

Anyone working on getting their spare rooms (or living rooms) together for guests? What's your limit for the length of stay?

My guest room is functional, neat, streamlined and clean.

Basic Queen bed with a heated mattress pad (for winter..this is CO after all), smallish dresser inside closet for storage, CD/Clock radio, ceiling fan w/ overhead light, cheapie torchiere floor lamp, old chair with a throw thrown over it, and a tall white bookcase with magazines and updated 'things to do in CO' brochures.

I always wash the sheets, comforter and pillows before guests arrive as well as clean the private guest bath and stock it with fresh towels and flowers.

What I want to add to my guest room :

* White nightstands

* Wall sconces

* Mini-fridge

* Wall hangings

* Pictures

* Wall-mounted flat panel tv

* Replace the chair with a wall-hugging bench.

My limit for guests is 2 weeks. After that, they need to start paying rent :-)

Dana and Nicole, your guest rooms are lovely!

I don't have a guest bedroom either (sigh) (just a "deluxe areobed"). However, I've been staying in my fair share this holiday season and have decided that two nights is my max as a guest and probably as a host as well...
