We've been renting for a long time and have picked up a few tips and tricks along the way for making a rental apartment a home. Since the real estate isn't technically ours, preserving the bones of the space is important as we create our home. One of our favorite tricks is...
...adding wood slats to our walls to create texture and dimension. We spotted this fabulous wooden backdrop to a workspace over at Kelly Green Design + Home (also one of our recent house tour participants) and wanted to share it with you. By simply creating and attaching a wooden "headboard" to the wall where the desk sits, the space feels rich with texture and style. Plus you are keeping the integrity of the plain white wall behind the backdrop only using a few nails to hang the wood piece.
What's your favorite way to add texture to your home?

We don't seen what a big deals is all about. They were still a good post - one little grammatical errors should 'nt ruin its for everybody. Relax, please?
But seriously, great informative post. Thanks Rebecca!

I totally agree! All this 'Royal we' is torture to read, especially with the mangled grammar.
AT is fantastic, with great posts and comments. But I don't understand why this is even an issue. Why can't a collective blog have multiple individual voices? Your posts are already identified by name. And you can still use "we" when it's appropriate, expressing something that really does apply to all of you as a collective group.
For example, maybe.... "We've paid attention to all your comments on this issue and are going to fix it!"

But I do love the wood wall idea. It's beautiful with the rustic natural texture and color variation. Thanks!

I've been contemplating doing just this -- adding wood to the walls -- in my place. Glad I'm not the only one!
Suggestion on the editing: Either go first person singular or dispense with first-person narrative unless absolutely necessary. OR use "we" to refer to all in the AT community. For example, the lede to this post could easily be rewritten to read so:
"Many AT readers (and bloggers!) have been renting for a long time and have picked up a few tips and tricks along the way for making a rental apartment a home. One trick that's recently caught the AT editorial eye is..."

madsarah, loveyoulongtime!
If that phrase means nothing to you, then please disregard. But if it does, call me, I miss you friend!
Also, love those slats!

And yes, I realize I just used passive voice in my previous post. :) Even editors need editors sometimes!

Hilarious comments! (And we think much more interesting than the photo/decor on this post).

I'm with Jplee: "It seems like every other post is riddled with this sort of grammatical torture...Comments are regularly left about the problem. Why won't AT create one regular style sheet?"
I wonder the same thing every time I read AT. Glad to see you've taken the comments to heart, though, Rebecca. Thanks!

In that photo, I see tall walls and funky wood beams on the ceiling. I think you could do arty things like a wood plank wall and it would work. But not in a cookie cutter beige apartment. It would look like strange garbage wood in a beige apartment.

Let's leave these comment sections for the topic at hand so we don't clog these sections with feedback that can be sent directly to us via our feedback option. Thanks everyone.
