How To: Build an Indoor Dog House

091708_hut.jpgAs Fall continues to creep in, we just want to get cozy. And we remember that when we were little we loved building forts in the living room and hiding out in them. Back then all we had were pillows, maybe a table and some blankets. Now we can stay in and build ourselves something a tad more solid. Oh and when we're done playing with it, it would make a great indoor dog house too:

This little newspaper hut is supposedly for kids, but we want it for ourselves. We found the instructions over on the Reform School Blog who had found it over on Pepper Paints. Using just rolled up newspaper, tape, a pencil, stapler, and a sheet you can make a cozy little structure to hide out in, play with the kids in, or just let the animals nest.

Ridiculous

What's with the snark? I think this is a cool project that, even if it isn't suitable for a chewing dog, could be used as a template for a more permanent structure.

um.... my dog would actually LOVE this.
I don't get the hostility either, don't like it, ignore it. Its pretty simple.
You shouldn't assume every dog out there would destroy this simply because yours hasn't been properly trained to not chew on things it shouldn't.

um....This is NOT a dog house.
This is more like a weekend project for people who don't understand pets
and have nothing better to do with their lives.
And excuse you but this project hardly fits into the things-your-dog-shouldn't-chew-on category.
It has nothing to do with your dog being *properly trained*. Pfft.

Say what you wish, but my dog (and every dog I've ever had) has been taught not to chew on things that aren't hers (Puppy stage aside). And she doesn't chew on things that aren't hers! Imagine!

I don't think they are suggesting it as like a permanent dog house, merely something fun for your dog to play in and explore, or maybe just snuggle in.

"This is more like a weekend project for people who don't understand pets and have nothing better to do with their lives."

Right.

Wow.. I think a few people need to get lai*, here...
Gosh.

I think my cats would love this, and my dog would have liked it too. She didn't chew on stuff either, aside her chewtoys.

one of my dogs usually hangs out in the back porch and she would love this... also, i babysit my boyfriend's nieces afterschool everyday and this would be a perfect outside project that they could see go to use!! My other dog(english bulldog) would love to huff and puff running thru this thing in a nanosecond, tho.

Those of you who have dogs that have been taught not to chew--how'd you do it? Can you teach a dog not to even once it's older?

Not everyone has to like everything
and to assume that a person's lack of enthusiasm
for a new DIY project has something to do with
"getting laid" would be hugely out of place.
I personally find this to be rubbish. Why?
I simply don't see my two (and since this has also turned into a discussion
about how well we can or have trained our dogs) very intelligent
and well trained westies ever using or discovering an interest in
something like this.

Perhaps it would be more fitting as a rainy day indoor activity for children
or as I've said before, as a weekend project for adults with nothing better
to do with their lives.

Uh oh. Looks like I've said it again.

Our dog doesn't chew either (sometimes she licks, though) but she prefers to be able to see where everyone is, so likes to stay out in the open.

However, I would TOTALLY love to play in this, even at my age. Talk about a perfect place for a nap!

Come to think of it, I work with engineers and I can see them building this in our copier room. Just to do so.

A dog house needs to be properly enclosed. The dog doesn't want to be stared at when it's in seclusion. I guess for a kid it's a cute idea but just because it's pet month doesn't mean us doggie owners would want this space taker especially in small apartments.
