How To: Create a Google News Alert
For That Craigslist Find You're Obsessively Looking For

020909_thrifstore.jpgSure we post our daily craigslist finds, but what about when you're obsessively searching for something specific like a Hollywood Regency bar or a Shaker rocking chair or a Saarinen style table and your whole day is taken up clicking refresh refresh refresh? (it took us a while to find those white chairs; a lot of refreshing). Thanks to a tip from one of our faithful curees, the answer lies in Google News Alerts:

TV's Jessica who maintains a great blog called No Accounting for Taste broke down how to set up a Google News Alert so that you get notified as soon as that chair has been posted on craigslist thus allowing you to concentrate on, you know, work.

"If you want to be notified immediately if, say, someone posts a vintage dresser on craigslist, you can create a google news alert for it. Just click here, enter your search term (i.e. “vintage dresser”) followed by site:your local craigslist site (i.e. “site:losangeles.craigslist.org”), choose your delivery options, and click “Create Alert”. Be sure to enter your local craigslist web address. Google will now handily notify you if someone in your area posts a vintage dresser, or whatever you’re looking for, for sale or free."

We think this would also be a great way to keep track of new apartment listings when you're apartment hunting!

Thanks Jessica!

in my experience when hunting for stuff, rss is too slow. it has a delay. if you watch a website and its rss feed, its usually a post behind.

Love that stool/chair facing the cove.
Please alert me the moment you find yourself not wanting it anymore.

Can anyone ID the stool facing the cove? It's just what I'm looking for to put in my kitchen!
