How To: De-stress

atla-061508-window01.jpgBetween lack of sleep and electronic devices that make us always available, our stress levels are at an all time high. It turns out that taking time to stop and smell the roses, may be the best antidote...

A new study suggests that looking out at scenes of nature is the best antidote for stress levels. But, living in an urban environment means that we're more likely to see rows of parked cars and asphalt than trees and grass when we look out our window. One of the benefits of living in Los Angeles, however, is the accessibility of nature. (Although we've never done it ourselves, Los Angeles is unique in that you can snow ski and water ski in the same day!) If you haven't done it already, consider putting a few plants by your front door, planting a window box or starting a container garden. Visit a nearby park at lunch, peek in on a neighbor's garden while walking the dog or meet up with friends for a hike in the mountains on the weekend. Adding a little green in your life will chase away the blues and the mean reds.

I live and work on an island where the destressing benefits of nature are always available, right outside my office window and outside the windows of my home. Aaaahhhhhh..... destressing.
