How To... Make a Shuttered Bulletin Board

Monica Ewing, I heart your DIY skills for this open and shut case of crafty goodness. Taking a couple shutters bestowed by a friend, the Craftynest creator transformed the doors into a hideaway space of organizational goodness, complete with a holiday candy-cane stripe fabric interior and matching red furniture nails as thumb tacks. A friend gave me these shutters. I loved their shape, but couldn’t decide what to do with them. Then it occurred to me that shutters were the perfect way to cover a bulletin board (which can look messy). It hangs right inside my entry—a great place for a message center—and I close the shutters whenever I want to hide the clutter. My favorite part: using red furniture nails as thumbtacks!

I like it. The shutters do have a nice shape. and the red color is a good choice. In the right environment, this is a great piece - and it looks really cleanly made.

Not my taste, but nicely done!

If you mounted hooks on the inside, this could easily be a piece to hold jewelry.

See how you all are. I like this a lot--no need to see the boring details of my work schedule, and those shutter doors are cheap at any Home Depot, etc. Could have been cutesy, but isn't.

I love it. I'm a visual person and like to have things in front of my face for organizational purposes. But not everyone needs to see the mess of my life, so the shuttering option is great.

Johnnybc has terrible taste! I think this is a great idea. I would love to have something like this in my apartment. It looks cute and has a purpose. I love it!!

I LOVE this idea! I wouldn't want everyone that came in my house to see the clutter or my personal business on the board! The Shutters are so cute and such a great Idea!! Johnnybc doesn't know what he's talking about! I absolutely love them!
