How To: Use Magnets While Putting Furniture Together

I'm halfway through my vacation and a portion of the precious free time has been spent redecorating my home office. That means Emily and I have spent more time than we'd like to admit putting together an assortment of furniture and decorative pieces (who would think such a small room would require so much work!), which also means we've had to deal with missing parts going willy-nilly. Putting together furniture in a small space can be a pain in the kiester, and losing parts is always a concern with rugs/carpet. Here's a tip for keeping all those small metal parts from rolling away forever...

All you need is a large refrigerator magnet, or in our case, a large political candidate magnet from the past election to keep screws, bolts, nuts and any other metal hardware from moving. This solution is admittedly something many of you IKEA pros might already know, but it was sort of an "ah-ha!" moment for us that unfortunately only was discovered after several incidents of "^%$@#! did that piece go!"

We'll be sharing the result of all the hard work and redecoration of the updated home office in the coming weeks. We're almost finished, and it's already 1000% a better space to work from. But we admit, we'll certainly be glad not to have to use an Allen wrench, screw driver, drill and their ilk for a long time afterward!
