How to...Clean Plastic or Vinyl Shower Curtains

atla0507_cleaningcurt.jpgGot dirty shower curtains? You can bring back your shower liners and curtains back to a beautifully clean state by using a cup of baking soda (some people recommend vinegar instead) and washing them with a load of white towels with a regular amount of detergent at warm temperature. The additional towels will keep the machine from tearing apart the curtains while also helping the agitating cleaning action. Afterward, just hang them to drip dry and you've got renewed plastic or vinyl shower curtains.

Just trash 'em.

Use a cheap vinyl liner you can replace and use a nice cloth curtain on the outside.

Vinyl/plastic shower curtain are for little kids.

Strange that a Marrimekko thing and a shower curtain thing both show up at the same time. I kid you not -- just this morning, I wiped my Crate and Barrel (2003) Marrimekko Kivet shower curtain clean while in the shower, with some Lysol Tub and Tile cleaner and a wash cloth. It worked great.

I kind of thought it would wear out by now (why? I dunno), so I literally bought the last 6 they had at the outlet I got it from, because I loved them.

I've done the towel/washer cleaning trick and in case there's any mold or mildew on your liner, I would recommend using older towels in case they stain!

I just tried this method and it totally works! I've tried wiping down with sponge etc but it's a pain - this method is really easy and labor-free!

Re: boomers post about just trashing the liner - why keep buying plastic liners and adding old ones to landfill if you can just clean it?

I'm with annie t -- there's enough trash out there already.
