apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Luckily, the trellis that we plan to build off of was pretty sturdy and not in need of repairs or paint. After doing some research on the Ikea site, we found exactly what we needed:
- Dyning gazebo canopy. At first we wanted the rectangular one, but they were sold out when we went to Ikea in Burbank. So we got two triangular ones instead. In the end, it turned out much better--especially when it came time to hang the lanterns.
- Simple (and cheap) white tab top curtains. We liked the natural linen look of the Bomull.
- We reused old curtain rods that we had replaced in our living room for this project, but they're similar (if not the same as) the grey Index ones.
- Lanterns. Keeping with the white theme, we went for the Sommar lanterns in white.
- Wood screws, hooks, and thin chains (for the lanterns).

This project was surprising simple: We hooked up the canopy to heavier beams, and then drilled the curtain rods to the sides and back. Four curtain panels on the back rod, and then two on the sides create a nice outdoor room which can be pushed open or closed (or knotted up so the dogs can run amok). Lanterns are hanging from a chain hooked on a screw-in hook at the center point and sides of the canopy.

All in all, we feel pretty proud of our makeshift cabana--not to mention dehydrated from the weekend heat! You can see more photos our cabana-building progress here.
