Need a project this weekend? When we first saw these on Danny Seo's blog a few months ago, we were surprised how cozy these looked--and how simple this project is. If you have some sweaters that you're no longer wearing and some chairs that are need of a new seat cover, consider this eco-chic option. Instructions after the jump!

Follow these steps from Martha Stewart Living:
1. Cut a sweater apart, working up the side seams and across the shoulders. Trim off the neck hole and sleeves, leaving two squares of fabric slightly larger than the seat of the chair.
2. Unscrew the seat cushions from the chairs. (The screws are usually on the cushion's underside.)
3. Cover the cushions with the sweater fabric, and secure the cloth edges to the underside using a staple gun or small tacks.
4. Trim any excess and reattach the cushion to the chair. Cost: $0

It seems that crumbs, dirt, etc would get into the holes in the sweater and make it really hard to clean.
Plus, anything on someone's pants would very easily snag the material.
I think a better idea, more practical would be pillow covers.

Sweaters unravel so easily - these wouldn't last long.
Better to donate the sweaters to a cold homeless person and get some real upholstery fabric for your chairs.

You could shrink the sweaters into felt, but it's still a hot seat, exp. in Southern California.

I just use random fabric. There are usually some old curtain panels lurking in the linen closet.
In a warm climate, this look isn't that appealing to me, but if I did live in a colder place, I think old wool blankets or Welsh blankets would be a cool choice.
