Yesterday, we blogged gray bedrooms, the color of our own restful space. But this week, while house sitting for a friend, we're staying in a room on the other side of the color spectrum.

We love yellow in other rooms, where its perkiness is a background for lively conversations, but in a bedroom? We were worried. A week in and we're in love. What makes the look work in a bedroom is keeping the competition from the other furnishings and accessories low. Here dark wood furniture, white bedding, the dark striped curtains and a minimum of strong, scuptural accessories balance out, and keep the focus on, the strong wall color.

I had a bright school bus yellow bedroom growing up and hated it. Perhaps it had more to do with the combination of purple furniture which was a hand me down from my sisters. Jealous of all of my friends pink Laura Ashley bedrooms, I boycotted my room and slept in the linen closet (it was big for a linen closet) for a couple of weeks in a sleeping bag.
It wasn't until I was in high school that I finally got the sapphire blue Laura Ashley bedroom of my dreams. Ironically I have carried that same blue (different bedding) to a few other bedrooms as an adult though lately been gravitating towards the a nice warm gold. I donât think I can bring myself to it and I no longer have a linen closet to hang out in in case it doesnât work out. ;)

I really like this color scheme. My own bedroom is painted Behr Bicycle Yellow. It's not overwhelming though because the room doesn't have a ton of natural light so it's not crazy bright. I also have a white bedspread and dark wood furniture. I use gray and yellow as accessory colors and black and white prints for art. It's great!

My absolutely favorite room of all time (which doesn't exist anymore) was the front bedroom in my grandparents shore house. it was painted a really light, sunny yellow and when the summer morning sun would come in the windows it was such a great way to wake up.
