Simple Clean: Bathroom

atla-091008-bathroom.jpgAlthough we love a clean house, we hate cleaning it when there are many more interesting things to do! And, although we've considered a weekly or biweekly maid, we'd rather save the money to spend on those more interesting things. So, the dilemma becomes how to find the time to clean and not have it take all day. Here's one trick we use in the bathroom...

Keeping a few supplies in the bathroom means cleaning more apt to happen regularly and often. A small sprayer of Windex, a small supply of clean rags and a squeegee, kept in a pretty container, lets us wipe down the counter, the mirror, the shower or the tub when we're through using them; keeping our toilet brush stored in some liquid soap and a few drops of bleach means it's always at the ready to wipe out the bowl. Doing a little bit every day keeps us from having to spend the whole day cleaning and keeps the bathroom pleasant to use at all times.

I have a little towel that hangs on the inside of the vanity door. Every time my husband and I use the sink, we wipe the counter (sometimes the mirrors) dry. This minimizes the times we have to clean the counter/vanity area. This also means no water stains on the sink and faucet, so it always looks polished! I also store all-purpose and window cleaner in travel-size spritzers under the counter for easy access.

The dishwashing liquid and travel sized spritzers are genius!

Though too girly for me, I appreciate the use of the Carrie Bicycle Basket as attractive bathroom storage!

Where in Los Angeles can you buy those bicycle baskets? I prefer actual stores rather than buying online. I checked @ KellyGreen but they didn't have it. Does anyone know? thanks

Where is the shelving from? Is it intended for the bathroom? Looks like it could work well as bookshelves, even.

We have no room for enclosed storage in our bathroom (besides the medicine chest), so I store a spray bottle of cleaner hooked (via the handle) onto part of the plumbing behind the sink pedestal. Handy and no ones sees it.

I agree that cleaning up after yourself and keeping the cleaning supplies nearby (like under the sink) are good ideas. They're also pretty basic concepts! I guess I'm missing whatever is supposed to be so unique and revolutionary here...

I've always kept a separate stash of items I use to clean the bathroom with in the bathroom. Just makes sense. Why lug things up and down the stairs when I can have it all in one place? Yeah, it means doubles of a few things but saves on trips around the house when I'm cleaning.

I like the idea of developing the habit of taking care of things before they're an official "mess." Also: clean (bigger clean up)on a schedule.

yes that is a good tip - I keep a can of scrubbing bubbles around so when the soap grime finally bothers me I can fix it right away.

btw I would die if I had that much tile in my bathroom...that grout would turn black real fast!

Oh wow, that tile looks like a nightmare to clean!

Great tips... that tile grout is probably a bastard. I know I have the same type small grooved tile spread across my mobile restroom trailers that I rent out for high end events.
