Inspiration: Blue and White Prints from Les Indiennes

atla-072908-indiennes01.jpgWe love Les Indiennes. The indian block prints (a far cry from the bedspreads we hung up in our dorm room in college), are handprinted, using Ayurverdic dyes and bleached in the sun to obtain their casual glamour. Perhaps because it's the summer, we're especially loving their blue and white prints. A far cry from the typical crisp and nautical blue and white we usually see, the delicate prints invite a snooze with a good book...

atla-072908-indiennes03.jpgCreated by Mary Mulcahy and printed in India, they take our bedspread of yore and like a great memory, make it into something much better than we remember.

Even more appealing, the creation of the fabric doesn't cause pollution or disrupt the lifestyle of the village where it's produced but, in fact, provides fair trade employment for over 50 families.

This is a look that's a natural for Los Angeles, especially if you live near water. The easy care cotton would only become more appealing after numerous washings and line-dryings, further bleached by the salt sea air. For more information, click here
