Inspiration: Jean-Pierre's Reflective Home
Melbourne

072109jean01.jpgWe were immediately drawn to the home of Melbourne store owner Jean-Pierre Heurteau. We understand that to some this house may scream “clutter!” but this is the kind of space that has us intrigued. An impressive mix of art, textiles, mirrors and furniture all packed into a 100+ year old home with great original features- it's a dream come true.

072109jean03.jpgBuilt just outside Melbourne in the late 1800’s, the home was originally built for a Dutch sea captain. What we really like about the building is the original pressed-tin ceilings, painted white timber floors and how well the modern kitchen compliments the rest of the heritage building. The mirrored bed head, chandeliers in every room, aboriginal art and taxidermy are our favorites in the furnishings. Jean-Pierre travels to France 3 times a year to purchase furniture and objects for his home and store, Jean-Pierre Heurteau Design in Armadale, (03) 9576 1349. 072109jean02.jpg072109jean04.jpg[images via Australian House and Garden]

All right, you said I'd scream it, and I do: CLUTTER !!

Still, I love the color scheme. Even if I don't like it, I still admire how it was put together.

Bright and wonderful. Love the wall art and the carvings in the living room! Nice.

At first glance I kind of liked it but then I noticed the details…cheetah print bed spread AND lampshades? That’s just tacky, and not the good kind of tacky…just bad tacky.

It's interesting to see how the all-white shell can make Victorian excess look contemporary.

I noticed the white, too, Lisa. But more what I noticed is that the color looks so much more vibrant and interesting in front of it. Good inspiration for people who have a wide variety of furniture and decor styles.

I liked the use of red and gold, and the high spirits. People know where I stand on the use of stuffed animal heads in decor. To me, it's always a downer.

Love it in pictures. But too many artfully-placed objects leave too little space for living for my taste. I'd probably enjoy any 6 of the above items in my own home.

Not restful and desperately in need of an "edit" button.
