Accommodating A Large Group in A Small Space

Heidi shows us that you don't need a ton of space to accommodate 35 people for dinner. Utilizing the concrete floor of a yoga studio, Heidi and her helpers make it happen...

Using wood to build the structure, the table remains sturdy because of its low height. Rugs and pillows makes the space cozy (and the heated concrete floor doesn't hurt). Sticking to an almost all white color palette for the table top, the area feels open and airy. Heidi brings in color with small bouquets of vibrant flowers and clear blue glasses which shimmer.

although, you would have to make sure all of your guests are able to sit on the floor before doing this. would be pretty embarrassing if someone was physically unable to sit so low.

oh dear... i hope guests knew about this in advance. you can't really sit like this in a knee-length or shorter skirt.

very creative idea... but I agree with the other posters. Guests need to know the seating arrangement in advance... and while it's fine for a yoga crowd, it's not acceptable for grannie and gramps..... and usually, if I have a large group, family is involved and at least 40% are over age 60....

Ugh -- nothing says "don't get too comfortable or stay too long" like a pillow on the floor. Sorry. It's lovely in theory, but very impractical.

I don't see what's so unrealistic about this setup. Most restaurants in Thailand offer seating on floor cushions, and patrons happily lounge for hours.

In this case, I'm assuming that the host would obviously have taken the needs/preferences of her guests into consideration. This configuration might not work for every kind of gathering, but I can definitely imagine inviting my inner circle of friends into such a space and everyone being happy.

Looks uncomfortable and like a very tight squeeze -- not much knee room with the pillows arranged so close together around the table. I know we couldn't do something like this with the crowd we tend to entertain...

Am sure it worked for the intended crowd but I would rather stand and eat than sit at that table, my body would be happier.

Very cute in theory but I would be pissed if someone didn't warn me in advance. My knees and back would be killing me.

How is the food going to be served? NOt much room for kneeling waiters, and that's too far to pass serving pieces, even with multiples. And if it's a buffet, you have to try to kneel with a full plate?

This is gorgeous, but how is this "not needing a ton of space"? There is an enormous table, big enough for 35 people in an otherwise empty room?

This has possibilities. Could we see a photo with seated guests?

Ugh. Just because 35 people can FIT in there does not mean they would enjoy it. The first thing I thought of was how hot it would be once all those people settled in.
