1. Stools - we especially like one with rungs for hanging books and magazines on.
2. Chair - an upholstered chair gives us the option of safety pinning our earrings or necklace into the fabric at night; a chair with arms gives us a place to hang our reading material. In the morning, of course, it's a place to sit and put on our shoes.
3. A single wooden box, or a stack, hides things neatly.
4. Ikea's lack shelf is always a great minimal look and keeps the floor clear.
5. A drum was the inspiration for the classic table; if you have one (or two) around the house collecting dust, why not try the real thing?
6. A music stand can hold our open book, a slender alarm clock and our glasses and display a pretty photograph or painting.
7. A stack of books was the inspiration for the image above; a stack of silver film canisters is another alternative; cd jewel cases stack into a slender stand (stack them and give the pile a slight twist for something a little more interesting)
8. An overturned plant pot or highly decorated planter while we're waiting for spring to arrive and take it away for another use.
9. A tray, a lazy susan, a basket or a bowl holds objects just off the floor.
10. We also love reader taureg's idea of a using a display dummy or a dressmaker form.
