Color Combo: Burgundy, Blues, and Black

101809_yipesstripes.jpgWe happened upon this color combo accidentally when we were researching Sköna Hem for last week's plant chandelier post. We held on to it mainly because we've never actually seen these colors used in combination before...? And it's surprisingly great--and perfect for fall...

Frankly, we're so used to associating the color burgundy to stuffy bed-and-breakfast inns or floral-patterned polyester duvet covers at motels. But here, burgundy takes on a fresher, modern look thanks to some well-chosen striped bedding in light tonal blues, an interesting arrangement of black and white photos above the headboard, and--gasp!--dark furniture!

P.S. That striped rug is great, and we totally want that in our home right now. Or at least around Thanksgiving. The burgundy makes it so perfect for fall, but the black gives it a nice twist--instead of the typical orange-brown-yellow-hunter green motif.

I don't really like it. It's like the color scheme for the new cars on the DC Metro... minus the black.

Where can I get the American flag fleece blanket, I'm guessing?

ugh...this looks a little JCPenny home. I want to squish all of the photos above the bed closer together and straighten them. I do like the rug though...

I really like this--it's a great balance of masculine/cozy/clean.

I actually really like it. My mom is really into those colors, and while they may not be my first choice, this is a nice way to bring it up to date a little more.

Ew...except for the fleece blanket. I missed that the first time around.

Though I can see this working in theory, the colors look pretty heavy and drab in the posted photo. I do like the rug.

This is a color combo that's taken straight from classic menswear into the home...
...I have an Ike Behar shirt in Blue w/ Burgundy stripes that works great with my Black suit - and wasn't there a post a few months ago of a room in a German Castle that was in this exact color combo?

IMO, if folks looked at the clothing and colors that they enjoyed wearing and translated that into their choices for colors in the home, they'd have an easier time of making decorating decisions.

Hate it. Very bachelor pad. I can almost smell it.

I like the duvet a lot. Great color. I think I'd rather have it with black and cream alone, though, without the blues. And that fleece blanket is awful.

I do have one blue and burgundy outfit that I wear but I don't do it with with black, but with a textured dark heather grey. The blue I wear with the burgundy is a very bright blue (like sky blue) and it's just a small piece of color...

I think with interiors, where there is a lot of wall (that is usually white or cream) the black may be too stark.

I love it - gorgeous and a nice balance for a guy and a girl, almost a tad preppy - kind of harvardish looking.

That's so rugby/nautical lauren/tommy from the early 90's.

Needs a touch of mustard yellow/gold to liven it up.

I love burgundy. It's my second favorite color.

Needless to say, I love the pic!
