Color Combo: Orange, Charcoal, Grey and Cream

030309_orangeblack.jpgWe've been on the hunt for some eclectic inspirations lately, from Parker Posey's old loft to this delicious study in grey, black, and lime green. Here's another study/guest room to add to the queue of inspirational offbeat interiors: Sheila Bridges' guest room/office is a study in orange, charcoal, grey, and cream...

Quite frankly, we just love how much personality this room (and her entire home in Harlem) has. A combination of traditional pieces done in unexpected finishes--like this glossy black desk--matched with surprising upholstery and ethnic art makes this home a reflection of Bridges' tastes and confidence.

I like the way that the paint stripes are a reflection of the fabric on the seat of the side chair...

...but for some reason, I'm getting a "Halloween" vibe.

I love it! this just gave me some awesome ideas for my bedroom. everything is grey, black, and cream so i've been trying to figure out what other color I can bring in to brighten it up, but not be tacky. the orange totally works!

This is basically the color scheme I now have in my entire apartment, expect that I substituted taupe for grey. The trick in making it successful, and thus avoiding the whole "Halloween vibe," is finding the perfect shade of orange. In my case the task was even more daunting because I live in Tennessee and had to avoid the dreaded (and absolutely horrific) Big-Orange-Football orange that dominates this area of the country. Another tip: make sure your black is on the purple side of the spectrum.

These colors would not have been my first pick, but after seeing the photo they are gorgeous together. I love that they work so well with the art! Really lovely for an office with a funky feel!

Haha, these are our wedding colors except more of a marigold yellow-orange to avoid the Halloween thing. Fun!
