Color Inspiration: Playing with Crayons

042808_crayons.jpgWe got a chance to play around with some kids this weekend and remembered how much we love to play with color and crayons.

042808-crayons3.jpgThis one reminds us of the post we did on Gray Bedrooms and a little bit of something we are realizing must be one of our favorite color palettes.

We just started grabbing at different colors and making little boxes of color combinations (we also went a little crazy with the little girls making a 4 foot long 'necklace', but we'll only show the restrained samples). If you get a chance, we highly recommend getting a box of crayons and playing around to help determine what colors you are really drawn to. The playful factor opens up the sense of possibility with colors without any of the anxiety of committing to a wall color, a fabric for the sofa or an entire room's scheme. We remembered the promise of that giant box of crayons and think that we'll actually go out and get ourselves a box so that we can keep up with that playful spirit.

I have been working through the same process for the last week. I found an old box of Crayolas, and knowing that was interested in painting some furniture, I started mixing and matching some colors. Right now I have a jar on my desk (at work) filled with various shades of blues, yellow and whites. Every morning I shake the jar around and see what ends up next to each other. It's been a fun way to "live" with the colors before committing to any.
