apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Darling Dexter's Refreshing Pad

We were stoked when we stumbled upon Whitney Deal's Darling Dexter for a few reasons. For starters, she's a darn good decorator and we have already committed to memory our favorite design elements in her home...

051309dexter-01.jpgThe more we see a bed in front of a window, the more it solidifies our need to copy the idea in our own home. Because Whitney uses sheer curtains, the bed is framed beautifully (which also opens up the room). Whitney mentions on her blog that the house was lacking closets when she moved in so she set up shop for her clothes and office in the spare bedroom. Making the area cozy with a desk and round mirror, she also uses the spot to type away on her blog, Darling Dexter. Because we own a bar table, our favorite area in Whitney's home has to be where her dining room table is set up. We love how the dining area is incorporated next to the living area (without it seeming cluttered or awkward). The taller than average table works well in visually separating the two spaces. Whitney's home is inspiring for its well edited spaces that we can see imitating in our own home.

Very nice! I don't if that's "renter's white" or if the white was chosen for the space, but it works beautifully.

I love the vanity in the closet. I would have liked much less clutter, but in general, the white lends to a very nice, open feel

I love white and all the other neutral colors you chose. I always avoid putting beds in front of windows in order to keep the open light from being seen from the bed....but it looks so great the way you arranged it. Beautiful.

@FB - Where are you seeing clutter? Seriously, it looks like how my apartment looks when I clean for a party and shove everything not nailed down into the walk-in closet.

Love the fireplace, love the light airy feel.

Love the green painted typing table next to the front door-- I have one that I painted shiny red and use as a bedside table, and I've gotten all sorts of compliments on it.
