Déjà vu? Darby Striped Headboard

100107_inspiration.jpg

When we spied the Darby Striped Headboard at Anthropologie, we immediately thought: "Looks like someone over there has a subscription to Domino!" (And yes, we realize that thinking that makes us all-out design mag nerds, but look at where we work.)

We remembered the exact same headboard (albeit way cooler not just because it was the original, but we're not too crazy about how thick the wood border is on the Darby headboard) in a back issue of Domino. While we vaguely remember the story (she was an artist right? With a super awesome art studio that we wanted to invade?), the part we do remember is that her daughter actually designed her room, from picking the silk screen to re-upholstering the headboard.

Which makes us hope that she's getting some kind of kickback from Anthropologie, but we kinda doubt it. Oh well. Imitation is the best form of flattery, right?

The one on the left looks so heavy. Putting fresh colorful stripes on it looks weird to me.

Not surprising - Anthropologie is the same company as Urban Outfitters, known for ripping off ideas from artists with, unfortunately, no kickback.

the original is way cooler, sophisticated and out of the ordinary....the Anthropologie one just looks weird with that too wide wood. But really, could they be more obvious with the rip off?

I wonder if they are selling the matching pillow too! If so, that's an extremely winnable lawsuit right there.

I noticed the same thing when they had a blue sofa extremely similar to Nick Olsen's that was featured on the cover of Domino last year. Thought he should have gotten some sort of finders fee...
