The bedroom just was not coming together. All the elements were great but it just wasn't working. Then some peonies came into the picture.

The bedroom just was not coming together. All the elements were great but it just wasn't working. Then some peonies came into the picture.
Suddenly with the addition of the perfect shade of pink the light green walls made sense and stopped looking so dour. The crisp white sheets looked lovely and delicate side by side with the soft petals of the arrangement. It was clear the the bright yellow mid century lamp had to go and that the teak nightstands weren't heavy, they were perfect!
Plus having fresh flowers makes us feel special and inspires us to keep the bedroom a little neater so that the bouquet can really take center stage.
Moral of the story: don't forget the flowers, they add texture, color, scent and heart to a room. The change is instant and, in this case, only cost $7 and have lasted a week.
Wow, only $364 a year!

How about instead incorporating that color through something less perishable?

I know I might get shot down with this suggestion but here goes. I was just in Pottery Barn and they have some really beautiful fakes flowers; especially the peonies. Yes, I thought I was really against the fake flower thing but they were very realistic and I thought of just sneaking in one display in my home that would last a while.

I think the appeal of real flowers are part of their ephemeral quality. And for me personally, I love the scent of fresh cut or live flowers opposed to the fake ones. After, just compost them and reuse them back into the cycle of life!

I had the same experience in my dining room when I put a bowl of granny smith apples on the table. The bright green brought the room together. Fortunately, we like apples a lot, so I just keep replenishing the stock.

Love the lamp. Did you make it?

The flowers are nice, but it's still kind of ehh to me. Why the white tray under the vase?
Fake flowers are tacky. But maybe a plant would last longer?

I have that lamp. I bought it from Target.

I like everything about this. You found what works for you - and that's no small victory. Plus, you found a way to create and enjoy simple beauty.

I'm not a fake flower lover, but if one were to find some that work... why not?
I've seen that lamp before, and I think it looks great here.
Peonies always remind me of my grandmother's garden. What a beautiful flower and a great treat to enjoy.

Maybe a lampshade in the color of the peonies. Peonies are only available for about 2-3 months a year and that lampshade is pretty blah.

i like it. Maybe on those off times when you have no flowers you could get a small pink throw pillow on the bed or a book covered in the same pink color.

I love adding flowers to my house when budget is good. Gerbera's tend to be my favourites because I love big, chunky, colourful flowers.
I love how you've arranged them here in the pitcher. Very sweet. Very calming, too.

Seconding the lamp - I've seen it in a store and thought it looked horrible and tacky, but here it looks stunning, I guess I couldn't imagine it in the right surroundings.

I like the lamp and the flowers and the tray, but MOST of all, I like that little green ceramic container with the lid. Very nice arrangement and selection of objects. Not too cluttered either.

Anyone know - Is that lamp still available at Target? I don't see it on the website... I got engaged under the Eiffel Tower, so I am partial to it =)

I haven't seen exactly that same eiffel lamp recently. Target appears to sell a smaller black version. You're all right about the lampshade, I've been battling it for years. And I don't plan to keep replenishing the peonies all year! I'd like to work in those shades of pink into other parts of the room now that I found the palette I really like.
I bought the little blue/green ceramic container in a tiny store in Coos Bay Oregon. If I can, I'll get the name!
