Interesting to note that each example uses white to contrast, which keeps the space fresh and from feeling too dark and gloomy. They also added in one pop color to keep it fun, like the fuschia bedding, in the top photo, the purple pillow in the middle, and the mustard and yellow in the last one. Have you used dark rich colors like these in your home? Show us! Better yet- Enter the color contest!!
I was just in London and came across this company, but was so disappointed to find out they're not carried in the U.S. Anyone know of a way to order from them?

These spaces are moody, but in a good way. I don't think they're fun, despite the well-chosen pops of color.
I'm torn, because I think if I had a space like this, I'd probably start drinking heavily and be more evil-tempered than I already am. :) But for someone who needs to be calmed down and taken down a notch, these spaces might be just the ticket. Or totally contrary to their personality...I'm not sure.
Also, I think the possible key to this look is to use extremely high-quality furniture, bedding, rugs, etc. If you had a faded black IKEA couch rather than a high-quality leather one, it would just be depressing. It seems like cheap dark-colored textiles age terribly.

Habitat is the little sister to the Conran Shop, like CB2 to C&B. There is a Conran shop in NYC and on-line you can order here in the US.
as for the colors... gorgeous!

I love using dark colors in my home and I don't think it's depressing. I used a very dark chocolate brown in my dining room and a dark eggplant in my master bedroom. The trick is lots of white trim, which I have in my house. I can't enter the color contest because there's no entry for homes in the south. Why is the south left out from AT? Does the south have no penchant for color and design?

Lorie09, your home is gorgeous! So luxe. By all means, enter the color contest. Even though there isn't an AT site specifically for Southerners (yet), people living anywhere in the world can enter.

Lorie09, I second mmadden , your home is gorgeous and you should enter the fall color contest. I'd vote you an instant finalist in a heartbeat.

Lorie -- you're the best I've seen so far! Enter! (I forget which site covers off the south -- although I know NY seems to do the rest of the world -- but I am sure AT would help you figure it out if you emailed them).
