Inspiration: A Painted Wall In Domino Magazine
Working With What You Have

012809heather-07.jpgFor us, this month has been all about painting. Next on the list was our friend Heather. It was her New Year's resolution to transform her living room into something striking and new. She borrowed a few Domino Magazines from us to flip through for inspiration--and she found it. Going off this bright colored, teal wall, we worked with what she had and made her space into something brand new. See the after photos below the jump!

Before the transformation

We failed to take before pics but rounded up this old photo from the 4th of July last year.

We arrived just in time to finish prepping the walls and start applying the paint.

We think the space turned out amazing! With a few coats of Behr's Empress Teal and Ralph Lauren's Golden Candlesticks, the room is instantly updated.

On a budget, Heather splurged for the Ralph Lauren paint and little else. The one item she did purchase was the empty gold frame (from a thrift store) that showcases the new teal paint. We culled art from other rooms that unified the space (going off the Domino picture as a guide).

We love how the gold paint opens up the space and the bay windows now pop with a fresh coat of shiny paint. The only thing left to purchase are a few window coverings.

Please, PLEASE get new blinds. They are only, like, $5 at Home Depot. Those blinds trash the look of your apartment and make it look like an abandoned trailer - no, seriously! It looks great otherwise but please, deal with the blinds.

Not a big fan of the shiny gold. I would be staring at any wall imperfection every day I lived there. The turquoise though? Gorgeous!

I agree, the blinds are awful! I'm really bummed about Domino, but not surprised. Their last issue was so thin!

That's very close to the color I've been thinking about for my one little accent wall. Nice to see it featured as such. Nice to see your photos too - they've really inspired me!

It's nice to see a post about transforming a space with color that doesn't include buying a whole new set of furniture. You really got a lot of impact out of a little paint!

I think it should be teal all the way around. It's so much prettier than the gold. And why not go for it? To me, one cohesive color pulls the room together more.

The room looks great, though. Agree that the blinds have to go.

The teal is beautiful, but I like the gold as well. A good friend of mine painted her tiny bathroom in metallic gold paint with cobalt blue trim and ceiling for contrast. It worked: it's strong enough to stand up to a really saturated colour.

That teal makes your granny couch look AWESOME! I agree about the gold showing imperfections... but the color is great.

RIP Domino! You were way better than lucky, and cheaper that elle decor.
