Inspiration: An Orange Ceiling

061209-ceiling.jpgAlthough our annual fall colour contest would have you think otherwise, many of us are very shy when it comes to colour. We consider it, we swatch it but then, when it comes to actually painting it, we go with white...or white...or even white...

If you're shy about colour, why not considering painting it on the ceiling? Here, in a tiny bathroom, bright orange modernizes a classic toile de jouy, making it fun and contemporary. Why not start in your own bathroom and slap up a bit of colour to enjoy when you're lounging in the tub?

Oy. The bold swath of orange juxtaposed with the delicate maroon/burgundy toile is advantageous to neither.

It is headache-inducing imho.

Gotta agree - not the best photo for encouraging color on the ceiling....

...but I do love my Chocolate Brown walls & ceiling in my hall bathroom.

A better picture might help . . . I think the toile is actually black and white, is it not? It just has that maroon cast from the reflection of the orange.
I like the idea and it might look fantastic in real life, just not so appetizing in this pic . . .

That orange ceiling looks horrid.

We have an orange bathroom. White ceiling, fixtures, and trim, black vanity, brown with black shower curtain with an ivy pattern, bronze metal accents, brown/gold vinyl flooring with an ivy pattern similar to the shower curtain... It's a guest bath, so not one we spend large amounts of time in, but it looks great!

I think brightly colored ceilings might work well in Victorian buildings witih high ceilings, but in newer construction with 8 foot ceilings, I think they might be a bit claustrophobic.
