We love going to the Apartment Therapy LA Group Pool on flickr for inspiration. We usually end up rearranging our furniture after a long session on flickr after seeing all the motivating before and after pics AT readers post. Cate is my name's house is no exception. We found three great ideas in her neat space--check them out after the jump.

In an older kitchen where storage space is usually minimal, it's important to think outside of the box. Here, cate is my name decided to add a VARDE base cabinet from IKEA to maximize her storage area. Other ideas are a center island with underneath storage space or overhead wire racks for pots and pans.

This is definitely one of our favorite organizing techniques--going vertical. Cate is my name took the lids of mason jars and nailed them to the basement ceiling. After labeling the jars and filling them with screws and nails, they're ready for their proper place (while staying out of the way but easily accessible).

Painting a room or wall in an opposite space a bold color makes that room stand out when you're viewing it from the opposing room. Not only does the room stand out, the bold color makes the room seem bigger and gives the space depth. Our friend just did this same trick with her kitchen (she painted it navy blue) and we swear it works!

Hey! That's my house :)
The jars screwed to the ceiling were actually the idea of the old man who lived here before me. His parents bought the house when he was 2 in 1926 and he never moved out...I'm basically the 2nd owner of the house. Pretty crazy!
valleyval - the window in the kitchen is a funny little thing - it used to be the outside wall of the house and when they added on the extra room they left the window. It makes the space seem more open for sure.

love your use of color...what brand and color is the creamy white?

Not sure what the creamy white is - it's the color the whole house was painted when I bought it. All the other colors are from Home Depot's Behr line.

My grandfather had his nails and things arranged in jars like that in his basement. Seeing that got me a little mistyeyed.
