Inspiration: Vintage Chenille Bedspreads

Snooping around Flickr yesterday, we spotted an individual's guest bed covered with a chenille bedspread. We'd seen chenille used before in marusica's home but at the time, we overlooked this refreshing design statement...

Granny to some, we think chenille works great as a focal point in the bedroom if used in the right context. We like chenille best when surrounded by vintage modern furniture or when used with an all white color palette. Besides looking amazing in all white, chenille also works well when paired with a strong geometric pattern. We love the fuzzy texture this textile gives off and suggest it for summer bedding but we also think chenille transfers great in the bedroom during winter months.

I grew up in a time where chenille was on every bed in our house - it creeps me out just seeing it again. I'm strange, I know. But I find nothing attractive about it.

I like it! it looks like a great way to introduce texture. I wish all the nice ones on Etsy were less than $200. sad.

I've always had a soft spot for chenille bedspreads.

I agree Suzy -
New Chenille bedspreads are currently available in several pastels now from a number of retailers...
...this might end up being the newest "Retro" bedroom fad.

I have always slept under chenille and am just not comfortable sleeping under anything else. I tried matelesse but it wasn't the same. Something about the way the chenille breathes...

Anyway, I recently replaced my traditional patterned chenille bedspread with one of these more modern ones, in moss green. I think it looks great: http://tinyurl.com/lvpb76

I don't get the hatred that some people have for chenille, but ultimately, it's my body that's got to sleep under it, and no way I'm sacrificing a good night's sleep for someone else's design aesthetic! :-)

I think the erotic lamb pillow is a nice unexpected touch.

I love chenille. There's something very summery, beach vacation-y about it. Since we don't have AC at our house, anything heavier is too much for the summer. Unfortunately, once I upgraded from a full to a queen size bed, my bedspread didn't fit as well. Time for a new (old) one.

I love the grandma-ness of it, but it's not quite my taste in my own home.
