Inspiration: Friday Night Spa in Your Bathroom

atla-041808-spanite.jpgFriday night. With our many commitments, it's the end of a very very long work week. Sometimes, of course, we wind down over dinner with friends. But we're just as happy when they cancel and we can pamper ourselves at home. This week, with the bathroom decluttered, why not try a spa night of your own? Our steps, after the jump...

  1. Start with a clean bathroom and fresh towels.
  2. Fresh flowers in the bathroom feels luxurious. A bathroom should be pretty as well as clean and organized.
  3. Dim the lights and light a candle. If you have one, use a scented candle. This should be an experience for all your senses.
  4. Turn on some relaxing music and turn down the ringer on your phone. Take a few minutes of uninterrupted time for yourself.
  5. Run a bath. While waiting for the bath to fill, we do a quick sweep through our home, putting things away and preparing for the morning.
  6. Now's the time for a bubble bath or a muscle soak. For simple, try Epsom salts (great to relax tired muscles) or baking soda (to soften skin). Try making something from your kitchen, pull out those gifts you've been saving for a special occasion or try some of the soaps and soaks Laure blogged earlier. The time to use them is now.
  7. Try a face mask. Even something as simple as egg whites brushed over your face can be a treat.
  8. Set a timer. For us it sets a twofold purpose: we can forget about time and it wakes us if we fall asleep! Then, close your eyes and try meditating and let the cares of the day and the week wash away.
  9. When you're done, you might want to rinse off in a cool shower. Or just towel dry.
  10. Get into bed early and read. Catch up on your magazines, get in a few pages of that novel you've been trying to get to, or snuggle in with your sweetie.
  11. Turn out the lights early so you can face the day, and the weekend, bright and refreshed!

Everything sounds great except for the alarm going off when you're really relaxed! But I think my plans this weekend will definetely need to include a bath.

don't forget a glass of wine! (Bring the bottle while you're at it).

And NO TIMER!

stephanieokay,

my timer makes a very muted buzz so it's not so bad. but maybe i've woken up in a freezing cold bath too many times. much worse -- and defeats the whole purpose for me of the relaxing evening!

kdkaboom,

i'm with you. kinda goes back to that "little kid getting clean after playing in the mud" feeling!

happy bathing!

I am afraid I dont have the attention span for a bath. Sadly, I dont think I am programmed to relax that much. I am going to try it this weekend with some music or maybe an NPR podcast. Do you just lay there?

I feel the Indian Krishna idol you left near the bath tub is a bit odd.

My sister got a steam shower from an online company based in Kansas City, http://www.mybath.biz that carries these freestanding spa like steam showers. She got one of their best units (the 78 i think) that makes you wonder why you would continue to OUT to a spa instead of staying in if you have one of these in your home. You really have to see with your own eyes to see what I mean, but it's the closest thing having a spa in your own home. It's a steam room, got a builtin hot tub, three showerheads, acupressure jets for a massage from head to toe, TV, radio, mp3/,mp4 inputs for your own music, handsfree phone for us busy people, foot massage, and lots of other extras. You can also use aromatherepy in the steam box. Truely amazing. I want a Steam Shower!
