In our last place we had a an old Murphy Bed Alcove (without the bed) and always wondered if we could custom make a couch to fit right into it. We had always pictured something like the daybed at Gregory's but in the latest issue of Domino we saw an even better idea:
Thom Filicia's place on the East Coast had a great cabin feel without any of the kitsch and we loved (loved!) the alcoves he built throughout the house to tuck in sofas and beds. They have just the right amount of cozy and the right amount of luxury to not feel shoved against the wall like a foot into a too-small shoe.
We got as far as building a plywood platform that fit into the alcove but never decided on the cushion, opting instead to put the tv on it. Now we wish we still lived in the apartment and could put this look to work.
AH! on the second look i noticed Mr. Deer was having a smoke... now i want to revive the antler trend for this reason.

I love this look too - banquettes like this are perfect as dining nooks in small spaces.

HE IS TOTALLY SMOKING.
I know a certain antelope in the livingroom that is about to look like a whole lot of bad-ass.

The couch in the nook is cool - I'm moving into a house with a nook - will try this out soon!

love pretty much everything about this nook - a cool take on rustic without TOO much kitch, and very cozy. i suppose you might have get the piece custom sized, but it could look just as cute (i think) to shove the sofa to one side, and pile some big ol floor pillows next to it to fill in the gap if you had to?
love this find, laure!
