Inspiration: Marusica's Eclectic Pad

021309inspiration-02.jpgWe spotted this inspirational set of pics on Marusica's Flickr photostream (and we're sure glad we did!). A mix of vintage finds, cozy backdrops and a new places to hang pictures makes this grouping of photos unique. There are a few ideas we'd like to apply in our own home...

021309inspiration-01.jpgTake for instance the way (or rather, the placement) of marusica's artwork in these two photos. In this picture, the artwork is only about a foot from the ground. Although the placement of the artwork isn't traditional, it seems to fit right in.

021309inspiration-05.jpgIn the bedroom, marusica makes the lamp her focal point and adds a little contrast by placing the artwork slightly to the right of the lamp (again, not traditional but we love how it looks!).

021309inspiration-03.jpgMarusica has a knack for pairing vintage finds and family heirlooms. We love the way she mixes up her collection of blue globes next to seafoam green artwork amidst dark walls and antique furniture.

021309inspiration-04.jpgIn the opposite room, Marusica goes for lighter walls and more antique furniture (we love the rustic, cozy feel of unfinished furniture). A large, empty frame adds a bit of charm above the dining room banquette. What an inspiring place--well done marusica!

Beautiful, reminds me of the Florentine palaces where old peeling plaster adds to the charm. And yes, most people hang their art too high.
Could we please see more of this place? So refreshing to see some quality after all the badly photographed crash pads full of junk...

now this is an inspirational apartment deserving of an AT post... it looks lived in, full of quirky pieces and lovely ideas... and not too "glossy 'home and garden' unachievable" at the same time. (not that that shouldn't be on AT - but just carrying on a debate from a previous dc house call, that really wasn't much to look at, where people were saying some house tours were too overwhelming/expensive and unattainable in trying to justify mediocre flats being on this website..)

nice job :D

Marusica (aka my bff Allison) has a great house, full of vintage collectibles and quirky objects. She's a thrifty shopper with an amazing eye. But, I totally gave her that chenille bedspread for her birthday! ;)

hey! hey! hey! We wanted to jump in on the Marusica Pad adoration...

Marusica has been a great, great friend to us and we're so pleased (and surprised!) to have Dolan's artwork featured so prominently in this posting! (we take credit for the owl-lady painting in the first photo, and the big old country-boy box print in the second)

It's truly an awesome abode and she's an awesome lady...
