All record stores are not created equal--Origami Vinyl is visually less High Fidelity and more turn of the century design style. Neil (Origami's owner) has turned a bare, run-down store front into a record shop you'll want to visit not only for the hand-picked vinyl selection--but for the backdrop as well.
Creating the look of Origami was a collaborative effort which relied heavily on the DIY stylings of friends and family. One of Neil's goals was to be conscience of the environment when building Origami. For instance, all of the tables are made from recycled wood bought at The ReUse People. Neil tells us that to make all of the tables in the store cost less than $100 (score).
One of our favorite design elements in the store are these Squirrel Cage, Tungsten-filament bulbs (replicas from 1907).
AT has always been a fan of wine crates as containers so we're thrilled with Neil's choice for record storage. We also really like his idea to take wall molding and turn it upside down for the wall of records on display.
You'll have to check back monthly to see the latest incarnation of the wall mural--Neil plans on commissioning local artists to show off their handiwork.
