Inspiration: Seafoam Green

052209mint-02.jpgOne of our favorite ways to update a home is through inexpensive thrift store finds (and then painting the bargain piece a fun color). Liz, of Mabel's House does a great job by selecting solid pieces and updating them in one of our most-loved colors--seafoam green. Plenty of inspiring ideas incorporating seafoam green into your home's decor after the jump.

I extremely love this. Typewriters! Just before seeing this, I found a large bottle on the porch all dirty and washed it thinking Christmas lights would be pretty inside it. Where is the plug? Does this bottle have a hole drilled in it?

Seafoam green is a little too Martha Stewart for me.

BambiJo - I feel you. I want the quilt and the sheets.

I'm not for painting much so most of the rest I can deal without.

Sea foam green is my favorite color. Mainly because of the sea foam green fender I've always wanted. But I painted the trim on a 1950's kitchen hutch sea foam green, and just painted a small side table a couple days ago to match. Our dresser top I also painted is like a dark sea foam or robin's egg. I tend to lean towards these colors a lot.

I definitely feel at home in Liz's world (similar to mine in color choices). She discovered a smart trick: paint otherwise undistinguished finds from thrift stores, attics, etc., a uniform color, and suddenly there's cohesion! That it's like living inside a Deruda ceramic piece makes it even better.

It seems seafoam green is making a come-back. It's a great soothing color that blends in so well with any style of decor.
Love the mix of colors in Liz's home.

It is a very pretty quilt indeed. The pattern is called "Grandmother's Flower Garden". My own grandmother made one for me when I was a baby, and I'm sure you can find lovely commercial versions by searching for the pattern name. :)

Lovely photos. Lovely ceramic pieces on the shelves!

Seafoam green. Very 1950s. Nice on accent pieces. Less charming on walls. I was there, and it was everywhere. Schools, hospitals, department store dressing rooms, and gas station restrooms.
