Inspiration: Terroni Restaurant

atla-072508-terroni01.jpgHotels, friend's houses, media, and restaurants are all sources of inspiration for us; part of our job description is that we tote our Lumix camera everywhere. The other night, we stopped in at Terroni, a lively spot on Beverly Boulevard, across from the entrance to the Grove. The wine (served in Reidel glasses), the food (walnut, gorgonzola, honey and pear pizza), and the Italian lessons emanating from the loudspeakers in the bathroom were all great but what really blew us away was the design...

Somehow, they've managed to get that mix of industrial and glamour, modern and weathered, sleek and worn just right. From the bar chairs (the orange tufted leather makes us swoon...)

to the large red letters over the kitchen...

the industrial lights over the bar booths...

the photos between glass that divide the bar area from the main part of the restaurant...
atla-072508-terroni06.jpg
the wooden booths, sleek and polished...

the tile, a little imperfect...

another type of industrial lighting, over the main part of the bar (we love how they've mixed a few kinds of industrial lighting with giant chandeliers, dripping with crystal)...

glamourous crystal lamps, grey tile and white grout in the bathroom. The old recordings of Italian lessons coming from the speakers make great background music. We might have to throw some into the music mix for our next party.

terroni does a great job of creating a unique space for each of their locations while generally blending into the style of their neighbourhood. considering the move to LA, i'm not surprised there's a modern, industrial kind of chic vibe going on here.

nicely done, hope you like the torontonian transplant ;)

I drive by there on my way to work every morning and often find myself almost crashing my car while trying to get a peek of the decor inside. So thanks for posting some photos, you may have saved my life!

[I just figured out what bugs me about the structure of posts like this. There needs to be a little bit of separation between the caption and the photos below it. I keep getting confused!]

I think that Commute Home designs the Terroni restaurants here in Toronto. Looks like they did the one in LA too. It's a great store, btw, on Queen West.

commute home does a great job with many of the trendy restaurants (nyood being on of the most recent) but i don't find their style in any of the terroni digs...

Just a wee spelling correction, it's Riedel not Reidel glasses.

Does anyone know where to get the Italian lessons from the bathroom on CD?
