Inspiration: Theme Bathroom

091808lucas-02.jpgWhen we hear the phrase "theme room" we automatically think of a child's bedroom. Fun for kids but not transferable for our grown-up apartment. So when we were in the bathroom of our local Echo Park salon and noticed it's simple "house theme", we thought "Wow--this is totally feasible for any adult space." More views after the jump.

091808lucas-01.jpgWe think a theme look works best in a small space. It's easier to "reel it in" because you're less likely to go overboard with decorative theme items. The salon chose two very effective "house representations": the wallpaper and a pair of photographs. Pulling the look together they use black paint which tends to draw your eye up to the wallpaper as well as to the checkered tile floor. We love this look and think they pulled off a difficult design challenge in going for a theme. For more tips you can check out this short article called How Can I Create a Tasteful Theme Room?

What exactly is the theme here? It's just coordinating items. I think it could have gone overboard if it was a theme. What's this featured rectangular glass thing on the wall? It looks like it's a light, but who knows?

We moved into a house when i was 11 that had a trout themed bathroom. It had a runner of wallpaper around the top of the walls with jumping trout etc. Since then we tore it out, turned it into a storage room etc, but mom still calls it the trout room. "hey- can you grab the mop for me, it's in the trout room!" hahah beware the themed bathroom!

Powder rooms are a great place to have over-the-top fun. I love this one. Where's the wallpaper from, it's terrific!

LOVE that wall paper. Please, where is it from!! As for theme rooms, why the issue? To each their own. It's a way to display what you enjoy, express our sense of humor, or whatever. My mother had her "Chinese room" (really the guest room) We all made fun of it (this was in the 60's, it was so kitsch!) but that gold quilted poly-satin bed spread, geisha lamps, and black painted furniture, etc. made her so happy. Life is too short to decorate our homes for someone else.
