apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Inspiration: Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Home

081308dean-03.jpgWe were at a friends house last night who happens to get the Oxygen Network. We had never watched Tori and Dean before but found our eyes uncontrollably drawn to the misadventures of this Hollywood couple...

081308dean-01.jpgIf there could be anything more surprising than that, we fell in love with the design of their house. We were expecting more of a formal decor in this traditional style Spanish home but we found ourselves pleasantly surprised. From the quirky blue wallpaper used in their little boy's room to the unexpected chairs in the kitchen--each room had a personality of its own. We want to know more but at least we have these pictures from the Oxygen website for inspiration.

I love the octopus wallpaper in their boy's room - I wonder who their decorator is?
(and what's up w/ all the giant mirrors in the bedroom???)

their friend Suzanne was their decorator. and TS has gotten no more than the $100K willed to her. they make their own money writing books, doing voicework, acting, appearances. the show is about how hard they hoof to make a living for their family.

Tori's friend is an interior designer originally from Atlanta and she designed home's interiors although she ended up hating what she did for Tori & Dean's guest bath (the one with the greywallpaper w/red flowers).

She also got rip roaring drunk at the house warming party. I like that quality in a person.

Anyone know where I can get the sidetables, chairs and the armoire in their bedroom? We are doing a house reno right now and their master is EXACTLY how I want mine. I LOVE IT!

Anyone else find it depressing that all the blinds are drawn in every shot? (Some nice ideas, though!)

I adore their master bedroom. I would choose a bit darker grey for the walls and some pop contrast ..but it's really dreamy.

I love the bathroom that Suzanne said she'd tear out - who makes the wallpaper?

I hate this house. The only good thing is some of the wallpaper. The bedroom looks like some spec house in the suburbs, especially with that horrible roof line.

i think I know what they're going for...
I don't like the rug in the dining room too much..I do like the pops of orange.
Nice note on the roof line -- would it help to disguise said roofline if you painted the ceiling same as the walls? I think lots of people (well, people on HGTV) have this issue....
We have regular ceilings (but popcorn'd - oy.)

i think it's fun and quirky, which perfectly matches tori's personality. maybe i wouldn't put all the items together like they have, but i would definitely pick and choose a few.

I admit it, I watch this show religiously.

I love the interior of the house, the exterior on the other hand....

I've never seen this as i live in France but the decor looks like my parents' style and I'm 62! Apart from the cot.

Holy crap - are they color blind? I think I would get dizzy and fall over if I even walked into that house. The wallpaper in the child's room is ok, but maybe only on one wall.

i love this show...it's my guilty pleasure.. the house is fabulous, it's so different and fresh, i love it. the bedroom is amazing and such a sanctuary, except they have a mirror facing the bed.. and that's bad feng shui so that freaks me out a bit..

other than that. i think it's full of color..and fun!

From my experience in Hollywood entertainment law, none of Daddy's money came through.

I was embarrassed in front of myself the first time I watched this show and then I thought "Yes!". Good for her. Because she is doing her thing and with Dean, she is doing it well.

Fun show. Fun couple. Nice place, not my taste, but really nice place. Refreshing break from the oh so obvious.

Nice posting Beth,

You have to employ a lot of patience to endure a makeover like this... the pics do not show it, but the closet makeovers seen on the show are really terrrific. What they did with a small space was terrific!

the bedrooms are the only rooms that i really like from their home (aside from the kitchen that is, their kitchen is lovely). all the rest is a bit too busy for my tastes, but what makes it good is that they love it. a home should be an expression of self. :)

I am so excited to see such a personality in their house. It was a totally blah house to begin with (reminded me of the houses in Agrestic from Weeds), but I am so pleasantly surprised to see the quirkyness and individuality in their decorating.
So easily could have ended up like every other house make-over on HGTV that you see today. When I saw the show with Tori picking out wallpaper, I was like, "wallpaper, WTF?" but I must say it turned out pretty cool!
And the show is not for everyone, but they are a fun, loving couple who seem to be great parents. Refreshing!

I love the bedrooms too! (and according to her on the show, she inherited $800k, but there's no mention if she has received it yet.)

I also LOVE the bedroom furniture and want to design my room the exact same way! Anyone know where I can find the bed? I'm guessing the night tables are Horchow, as they're big on the mirrored furniture. I also am dying to get my hands on just 1 chair from their kitchen table set. I want it for my office and my white desk! Side note: Someone also please tell us where they got that GORGEOUS crib in the baby's bedroom?

Sorry, made a mistake, the crib in Tori and Dean's bedroom is the one I want! It's so antique looking and beautiful for a little girl.
