Okay, confession. Although I'd heard about this movie, I'd never actually seen it. Recently, it showed up while I was channel surfing and I decided to watch it. Sucked in might be a better way of describing it...

The interiors and the clothes are as compelling as the unexpectedly dark story of the struggle of the three women and their relationship with success. For any design lover, the history of design seen in the evolution of the interiors is as addictive as the pills, aka "dolls" of the title. The story begins just after World War II and ends in the mid-sixties; the women's evolution is echoed in the design as the settings move from dark traditional interiors to classic bright mid-century California modernism, from New York to Paris to Hollywood.

I can't believe she was trying to save the relationship with a man who wears pedal-pushers. Ummmm, no.

I re-read the book every year or so. Guilty pleasure. It's better than the movie, but the movie's good too!

I agree with LBhirise: manpris are such a turnoff. Her hair is gorgeous, though.
If you watch this movie on DVD, make sure to watch the trailer in the extras. So cheesily dramatic!

The scene with the mobil is insane. I want something like that hanging in my foyer.
