apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Inspiration: Vintage Theater Seats

We love the way vintage theater seats add old world charm to your space while mixing well with your modern tastes. We've rounded up a handful of ways Apartment Therapy readers have incorporated these classic finds into their home...

If you're lucky enough to find a set that folds up, the row can slip easily into a narrow hallway or tight spot in your home for extra seating. We've always liked the look of a pair pulled up to the breakfast table or adding charm to a living room among your sofa and love seat. If you happen to find upholstered theater seats, you can always recover them to match your decorating style.

Apartment Therapy readers--where would you put a pair of vintage theater seats in your home?

They look fine in a hall, as a "landing strip", but they're uncomfortable to actually sit in.

Love the black industrial lamp in the first picture, anyone know what it is?

I used to have a small set, and they worked great in my foyer. I'm not sure about the "old world charm," though. What's Old World about theater seats?

"Old World" does not mean what you think it means. It means styles primarily from Europe, as opposed to the "New World" of the Americas. Theater seats are not "Old World" in any way.

i agree with the first comment, so we used them in our back entrance and so far so good - you can see them in the very back of this photo:

Fold-down seats in the hallway--what a clever idea!

Not to quibble, but all of those wooden examples are train station seats, not movie theater seats (which are upholstered). I only mention this because it's easier to find them if you don't mistake them for movie seats (which I did when I was looking for some.)

We have a pair of theater (the vinyl upholstered ones) in our living room. They fold up and we can move them around so guests have seats in the tv/game area. They are even comfortable! We love em! See them here (although it has changed A LOT since then!): http://makemineeclectic.wordpress.com/2008/12/16/end-of-house-tour-the-living-room/

Bullyproofvest--very nice! I like how your place looks sort of beachy.
