Inspiration: Kate's Wood Accent Wall

061809tiny-01.jpgAs soon as we spotted this wall, we were reminded of The Berdhouse Gallery's wood slatted wall. Cozy and unexpected, the wood wall is quite impressive--and is also a DIY by Kate and her beau...

061809tiny-04.jpgThe wood slatted wall is definitely the focal point of the teeny bedroom but it's also getting some help from the yellow walls. Kate uses these elements to draw our eyes to the texture of the room (instead of paying attention to it's size). Kate also gives us the backstory on the wall, "it's made of wood slats that my boyfriend and I stained with blue wood stain. It was the biggest pain ever to put up, but worth the trouble in the end."

061809tiny-03.jpgOn the opposite wall, a row of artwork to gaze at while in bed. And we're definitely digging the unmade bed look--a cozy room indeed.

we did something similar when converting a 2nd floor kitchen to a nursery; re-claimed wood from the rafters of our garage to make a 'mosaic' for the backsplash/change table:

Kate,

I love that you took a small room and utilized one wall as a headboard. That, plus cushy bedding (I'm really digging the collection of stripes), is what takes such spaces from "tiny" to "cozy."

Thanks for the inspiration!

Indeed, panelling the back wall as a headboard is a great solution for those who've made their closets into bedrooms.

I Think it is great, especially being from NYC where bedrooms/closets are not so available.... and we all wish our closets were that size so that we were able to make them into a bedroom just like this one...! ;)
I especially love the way the window is off center it just adds to the quaintness of the room....

Just goes to prove that it's the style and not the size that makes the room.
