Inspiration...House Beautiful's Instant Room Series

092608_instant01.jpgOne of our favorite monthly reads is House Beautiful's Instant Room. Each month a different designer provides a 1-2-3 step look for pulling a room together with different colors and fabrics. The designer will discuss his or her inspiration and will provide several fabrics to choose from to create both furniture and accent pieces. Check out October's Instant Room after the jump...

This month's Instant Room was created by furniture and fabric designer, Peter Durham. Peter began with a colorful paisley print and offers multiple fabrics for 2 additional categories - upholstery for furniture and accents. Simply choose your favorite of the 3 and there you go - potential color scheme, look and tone for an Instant Room. Plus, the designer will suggest which fabric goes best with what furniture or accent piece.

I LOVE this column!! It helps train your eye as to what will go with what. Not all of us are born with interior design talent. Some have to be trained. Glad you mentioned this because it is really good.

Good idea in general - but I have to wonder how available these fabrics are?

If they're "To The Trade" only, they're not accessible to anyone who doesn't have the significant time or resources to work with a decorator or prowl the designer showrooms (which are only open on weekdays) - so that's not awfully helpful to the reader of average means who works 9-10 hour days.

what's so annoying is that don't actually do the room. so you have to imagine it.
