Obviously we here at ATLA tend towards using a lot of color in our homes. But when we came across this bedroom in another of the Chinese design mags we picked up, we thought neutral never looked so good.

When planning a neutral room it's normally important to have some bolder colors in small doses (as flowers, a framed photograph, a ribbon on a pillow) to keep the room from becoming blah. In this case, the color comes from what's outside the window. High rises and the city outside become the everchanging pop of color. When it gets to be too much, just close the curtains.
So when you are planning a room, don't forget to look at what colors are a part of your palette just from being outside of the window. Do you have tons of lush green plants? A brick wall? Someone's colorful laundry? Rooftops?
Could you live in such a neutral bedroom? Is the cityscape enough color for you or would you need more?

If you like neutral, check out Canadian House and Home. They think beige is a "color."

this room actually makes me go "ahhh", that's in a good way. i'm a big fan of neutral, not blah neutral, but soothing, calming and interesting neutral. i recognize that i am in a minority on this site, but to my sensibilities, this site overemphasizes color, especially in some of the contests where wall color is at the point of screaming day-glo. i could easily live in a very neutral environment, and in fact i do. i prefer it.
