Orange In The Home: Two Examples

030909-colour.jpgAs NY is the Big Apple, LA is the Big Orange so it's only fitting that two Los Angelenos find a place for this bright colour in their similarly arranged and styled living rooms. Here, in our friend's home, orange puts the focus on the couches. Grounding the colour: a neutral rug, black and white curtains and a neutral coffee table. In contrast...

Somehow, just about every room in my house has gotten to be orange, and AT has had several articles about the color orange just this week. Is orange the 2008-2009 color of the year?

Orange is my favorite color. It is currently in my kitchen and living room.

It's my go-to accent color. Looks especially nice with the dark floors in the photo.

I was raised in LA and lived in LA through undergrad. I've honestly never heard of LA referred to as the Big Orange. Interesting.

Deep coral is my favorite accent color. It's not red, it's not pink, it's not orange. And depending on what surronds it, it can be any of those three colors. I love it!!

Just when I thought I was past my orange fixation--I had several rooms painted in various orange hues in my old house, but really didn't think it would work in my new one--I realize it has crept back in and now demands to be reckoned with. It works with almost every archictectural style and wood finish and balances out blues, greens, and grays beautifully, not to mention basic black and white.

I used to have two vintage orange wing chairs! They clashed horribly with my other furniture (all castoffs from family), but they lit up the room very nicely.

The only "Big Orange" in SoCal is Orange County. There is no notable fruit or food reference for Los Angeles. As a native Southern Californian and long time Angeleno, I have yet to learn of one.

To call LA the Big Orange is as incorrect as calling the Anaheim Angels the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

sarasita310,
i can't speak to the pillows in the bottom image but my friend's pillows were made by her upholsterer from fabric found at michael levine's and michael levine's upstairs (where fabric is a dollar a pound).
cheers!

I never thought of using orange until I had received some posters- "V for Vendetta" and "A Clockwork Orange."

They both have this kind of red-orange and I have become obsessed with the colors in each because they also introduce a yellow-ish green:)

Yay for orange sofas! I have one and much to my surprise, even after several years, I haven't regretted purchasing it. I went to the furniture store to get a sensible tan or neutral colored sofa and instead fell in love with (and bought) an orange one and an armchair to match (it looks similar to the orange sofa above except mine isn't a sectional). I thought I would live to regret the decision, but I haven't. I've moved a couple of times since I bought it, but it makes my living room "home" no matter where I live. There is something really cheerful and happy about an orange sofa.

The room with the orange sofas is so cozy. I'd love to curl up there and read in that filtered sunlight.

Does anyone know where the rug in the second picture comes from?
