We're always on the lookout for the best design tips (and even better if we can translate them to work in small spaces). So when we stumbled upon Traditional Home's top 10 list of designer tips, we knew we had to take a closer look. Our favorite tip in action after the jump.

Our favorite tip from Traditional Home's Top 10 list is to use a round rug to open up a space. Virginia designer, Barry Dixon says that using a round rug in a small space will open up the room and make it seem larger. We tend to agree and didn't realize this small space trick until we saw it in action.

The space seems limitless with the round edges of this area rug. The round ottoman reiterates the circular designed rug making the space feel open.

Glen's round rug is a bold color (which you might think would make the space seem smaller). But in Glen's living room, the rug becomes the focal point drawing your eye outward and making the room appear bigger than it actually is.
