Small Space Solutions: Join Furnishings in The Mind

atla-091008-join.jpgWe're always looking for tricks that can make a small space feel bigger. From choosing one oversized piece to showcasing pieces that can do multiple duty, we're always looking for ways to fool the eye. One idea was right under our nose, so to speak, in the home of our own Gregory...

Gregory and Emily's space is small, there's no argument there, but it feels larger, not just because of its open plan layout and spare yet colourful design, but because the major pieces of furniture in the adjacent rooms (the couch and coffee table in the living room; the bed in the bedroom, even the office chair) are similar in design and sport similar legs. Because the mind finds relationships between these things, it is fooled into thinking that the space is larger than it actually is. Whether your own home is as small as theirs or not, consider taking one design element, whether a colour, a style or a fabric, and echoing it in different rooms, to bring them together.

Space-saving tricks aside, this place is a good example of how to use MCM in an older home that has traditional moldings, wainscotting, etc.

Gregory - I love your place! Can you tell me what the paint color is in the bedroom (on the door, though I imagine its the same on the wall)?
